Connecting with Readers: Inviting RPG Topic Suggestions

I want to connect to my readers.

But don’t send me invites to conventions I can’t go to because they’re geographically opposite to where I live! I will not have drinks with you and there will not be bonding of any sort! I’m not that kind of guy. But that’s not what this post is about.

It is instead, once again, time to ask the gentle reader what RPG-related topic he or she would like me to write about next. This presupposes that you know what I’ve written about in the past or that you can find out by using an archive feature that isn’t entirely insane like the one I currently have, none of which are feasible, but nonetheless, feel free to suggest anything. I’ve been looking for something to write about that challenges my wit and takes me out of my comfort zone, but I realized then I did not want to do either, and that instead I want to write about unchallenging vapid things that are easy to throw out there repeatedly to gain traffic.

Like D&D Soda.

But I’ve come to a compromise and decided to let the readers have their say instead. It’s democratic, and I may be a damned dirty liberal socialist according to online personality quizzes, but I still think Democracy is a nice idea.

I vote that you should write about writing about RPGs.

Either that or start working on your own eBook and keep us in the loop on its development. =D

I think it would be interesting to hear your take on why Oriental Adventures isn’t up to the task of correctly modeling the “feel” of Asian-influenced fantasy. I think there are non-obvious reasons that wouldn’t be apparent to readers like me who are just generally uninterested in Asian-themed fantasy, and it might help me better articulate why that stuff doesn’t work for me; it’s also something you clearly know a lot more about than me.

Also interesting would be why you settled on 4e for Eden instead of Exalted (I suspect mechanics issues) or Feng Shui.

I’d really have to think about a way to complicate the answers to those questions, because currently, I just don’t like Exalted and have never played Feng Shui, but I do play D&D 4e, and that’s sort of the bulk of it. From what I’ve heard, there’s really nothing stopping Feng Shui from modeling a Eden-esque world. For Exalted, the lack of useful, basic magic is the major issue. Exalted’s sorcery is hard to acquire and hard to use compared to its Kung Fu. There should be some spells somewhere you can just toss over and over without end in Eden, since magic in Eden floats around like oxygen does in our world, and shooting a magic missile is simple enough you can just do it forever.
